There’s something exciting about pantsing a novel.
This is my first actually. I’m a virgin pantser. And, though, it was uncomfortable and scary in the beginning, I found that I like it. I really like.
I do have the basics outlined in my head. I knew how the story started and I know how it’ll end. But all those little details in the middle – all those scenes I usually write in different colored pens on different colored note cards and then hang on a board to move and shuffle around like an OCD evil genius – yeah, this time around I have no idea what they are. I have no clue how I will get from point A to point B.
Before I even started writing this novel, when I first decided to pants it, I figured each day I’d sit and stare at the blinking cursor trying to figure out where I was supposed to go because I didn’t have a pretty colored note card telling me.
But it’s actually really exciting!
Each day my characters take me on an unexpected journey, one that I’m always hard pressed to leave but very excited to get back to the next day.
I always can’t wait to see what happens next.
I’m not sure if I’m ready to completely abandon all my plotting ways, but maybe some of them.
This feeling is too good to not feel again.
