The First 10,000 Words or God, This Sucks

Things To-do Before Drafting (or more accurately, Things I Should’ve Done Before Starting To Write This Novel)

1. Turn off my internal editor

2. Get my characters to like me. Really like me.

Sometimes I have to hit the 10,000 mark before my characters talk to me with no stutters and no whispers. (Eh? Speak up!)

And don’t get me started on Editor RB, who insists I go back to the last paragraph and change “cannot” into “can’t” before going forward.

I’ve learned over the past however many novels that the only way to get past it is to just plug through. Eventually Editor RB will shut the hell up and my characters will stop being such assholes.

In the meantime, Husband and Bubbles should brace themselves. I’m going to be a bit crabby.
